\ctrline {The Standard \TEX82 Tape}

Files unless otherwise indicated are in {\mc ASCII} or {\mc EBCIDIC} (as ordered)
with lines padded to 80 characters with blanks and in 8000 character records with the
last record of the file padded with blank lines.

Files with names ending in .tfm or .pxl are actually supposed to be binary
byte stream files ({\mc PASCAL}'s
{\bf packed file of 0..255}) but they are encoded for ease of transcription as
text files and written on the tape with each byte replaced by exactly 4
ASCII (or EBCIDIC) characters, with leading blanks as needed, giving the
decimal equivalent of byte. This string is padded with zeros to be a
multiple of 4 bytes long and is terminated by a byte containing {\bf --1}.

A few files, those with names ending in .log and .typ, are text files as
actually produced by the the test program and have not been sanitized for
transmission.

The first file on the tape is called {\mc `CHAR.SET'}. It's purpose is to
check that you are reading the tape correctly.

The second file, called {\mc `TUGTYP.CMD'} is the actual command file that was
used to produce the tape and it contains a complete list of the files on
the tape.

Next comes the WEB system. TANGLE.PAS is for boot-strapping, and can
also be used to test your port of TANGLE. Similarly, POOLTYPE.TEX is
used to test your port of WEAVE.

TeX82.bug

The TRIP files are used to test out your port of TeX and friends.

tripin.log
trip.pl
trip.typ
trip.tfm

TeX82 PLAIN stuff
plain.TeX
